User Privacy Question Response
What information is collected? This application collects information about the User (caregiver) and Participant (child). Items include:
  • User’s initials
  • User’s education level
  • Participant’s initials
  • Participant’s date of birth
  • Participant’s gender
  • Participant’s first language status
  • Participant’s clinical status (diagnosed and/or receiving treatment for a neurodevelopmental disorder)

The only personally identifiable information collected will be the Participant’s birthdate. Specific birthdates will not be recorded, but participants will be assigned to groups based on their chronological age on the day of testing.

The application also collects single-word recordings of the Participant’s (child’s) voice.
How is this information collected? Non-identifiable information is collected via introductory questions displayed at the beginning of the application (fill-in, drop-down menu, multiple-choice, and yes/no formats).

Recordings are collected via the device’s built-in microphone and recording system.

All of the information collected by the application will be sent to a secure, password-protected server. The responses to the questions will be compiled into a text file and each recording will be retained as an individual sound file. All files will be identified by a random ID number. None of the information will be saved locally on the device.
How is this information used? This information is being collected for clinical research purposes:
  • Information pertaining to Participant date of birth will be used to determine Participants’ ages in months at the time the app was completed.
  • The single-word recordings will be quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed by trained personnel to characterize Participants’ speech sound production.
  • Other information collected about the User and Participant will be used to determine if/how speech sound performance is associated with demographic factors.
  • All of the collected data will be aggregated and none of it will be used to identify individuals.
Who will have access to the information? The collected information will only be accessible by trained research and clinical personnel who have received clearance for access through the University of Texas at Dallas Institutional Review Board. The information will not be distributed to any third parties (advertisers, software developers, or other research institutions).

Research results may be published in research journals or presented at conferences or in university classrooms for instructional purposes.
How long will the information be retained? The information collected by the app will be retained indefinitely as long as approved by the UTD IRB.
How can I revoke my consent or have my information deleted? To revoke consent and/or have information deleted, please contact support at Speakeasyapp@utdallas.edu. Include a request to have information deleted as well as the random ID number provided at the end of the application.
